TWIC Alert – TSA to mail TWICS to approved applicants
Applicants for Transportation Security Identification Credential cards now can have them mailed directly to their homes or other locations instead of having to make a second trip to pick up the cards at a TWIC enrollment center.
The Transportation Security Administration’s new policy addresses a long-standing complaint by workers, many of whom say they’ve had to waste most of a day traveling to and from an enrollment center that they’d already visited to apply for a TWIC.
TWIC applicants also have complained about weeks-long delays in the delivery of cards. The TSA said delays during June and July were caused by the transition to a new data and card production system, and have been “significantly reduced.”
The agency said applicants should expect to receive their new TWIC within three weeks, but that applications requiring review by a TSA adjudicator would take an additional three to four weeks.
The TSA also said the TWIC enrollment centers have been renamed Universal Enrollment Services centers. The enrollment centers provide services for TWIC as well as the TSA’s TSA Pre program for expedited air-travel screening, and the agency’s Hazardous Material Endorsement program.
